Christmas Song: Let's Dance Around the Green Fir Tree
Origin of the Song
Dansons autour du vert sapin is the French version of Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree, composed in 1958 by Johnny Marks. It was first performed and recorded by Brenda Lee that same year, when she was only 14 years old. However, it took two years for the song to start selling well. The popularity of the famous Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree coincided with that of the singer.
So it was in 1960, during the holiday season, that the song took off and reached number 16 on the Billboard charts. It quickly became a Christmas favorite and continued to sell well for the next quarter of a decade, even reaching number 5 in 1984 on the Christmas songs chart.
In the early 1960s, another version was recorded by Alvin and the Chipmunks. However, this cover was not a hit and was not even played on radio stations. Brenda Lee, with her version, thus occupied the airwaves for about thirty years.
In 1992, Ronnie Spector and Darlene Love recorded the song for an album called "A Very Special Christmas Volume 2." This version, like all of Darlene Love's songs, was a huge success.
Although the Vienna Boys Choir, Cyndi Lauper, Miley Cyrus/Hanna Montana, and the Hansons also performed "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree," Brenda Lee's version remains the most popular of all time.
The French version is also known as "Dansons autour du sapin vert" and "Danser autour du sapin vert." The most frequently broadcast version in recent years is undoubtedly that of Marie-Élaine Thibert.

Lyrics French version
Dancing around the green fir tree
Clapping hands
Dancing around the green fir tree
And sing until morning
Throwing streamers everywhere
Taking up the choruses
And kiss in front of a witness
Under the mistletoe or in the woods
You'll get a little shiver down your spine
Seeing the decorated tree filled with gifts
Dancing around the green fir tree
Clapping hands
And kiss in front of a witness
Under the mistletoe or in the woods
You'll get a little shiver down your spine
Seeing the decorated tree filled with gifts
Dancing around the green fir tree
Clapping hands
Dancing around the green fir tree
English version lyrics
Rocking around the Christmas Tree
at the Christmas party hop
Mistletoe hung where you can see
Every couple tries to stop
You will get a sentimental feeling When you hear voices singing
“Let’s be jolly; Deck the halls with boughs of holly » Rocking around the Christmas Tree
Have a happy holiday
Everyone's dancing merrily
In a new old fashioned way
Rocking around the Christmas Tree
Let the Christmas Spirit ring
Later we'll have some pumpkin pie
and we'll do some caroling
You will get a sentimental feeling When you hear voices singing
“Let’s be jolly; Deck the halls with boughs of holly »
Rocking around the Christmas Tree
Have a happy holiday
Everyone's dancing merrily
In a new old fashioned way
