Top 10 Christmas Songs
So, at the top of the Top 10 list, it's hardly surprising to find Jingle Bells, considered the most famous Christmas song of all. So famous, in fact, that at the place where its author wrote it down, Simpson's Tavern in Medford, Massachusetts, there is a commemorative plaque recalling that it was composed there. Next comes Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, a character inspired by a fairy tale that has become as popular as the song. Third place goes to Silent Night, one of the few Christmas carols of Austrian origin, and performed for the very first time in a church on the night of December 24, 1818. Winter Wonderland is in fifth place, a well-known song, and one that has broken sales records.
Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas is ranked sixth in the Top 10. Although its lyrics were originally considered depressing, the modified version nonetheless touched the hearts of American soldiers during World War II. Let It Snow, published and recorded by numerous artists, also set a new record for the number of copies sold. At number eight is The Christmas Song (Merry Christmas), inspired by a hot day, followed by Here Comes Santa Claus. Finally, in tenth place is Elvis Presley's hit Blue Christmas.
