Music: Angels in our countryside
Musique de Christmas – Chant Chrétien
Angels in Our Countryside is another popular Christmas carol, but it is unknown who composed the music and lyrics. However, it is known that it dates back to the 16th century. As for its origins, some claim that this carol comes from Languedoc, while others allege that it comes from Lorraine. In short, whatever the case, we can say with certainty that it is of French origin.
This song depicts the shepherds searching for the nativity scene on Christmas night. Several adaptations and harmonizations have been made. However, the most popular and spectacular interpretation is undoubtedly that of Charles Aznavour and Georges Garvarentz.
In German, "Angels in Our Countryside" has two different titles: "Angels We Have Heard on High" and "Angels We Have Heard on High." In English, it's more like "Angels We Have Heard on High." However, regardless of the version, the refrain is the same for each version.
Besides Charles Aznavour, Fernand Gignac, Alain Morisod and Sweet People, Gino Quilico, Johanne Blouin and Luis Mariano are also among the artists to have performed the famous "Angels in Our Countryside".
The English version was recorded by Andrea Bocelli, Andy Williams, Randy Travis, Donny Osmond and Ella Fitzgerald.

Lyrics in French version
Angels in our countryside
They sang the hymn of the heavens,
And the echo of our mountains
Repeat this melodious song:
Gloria in excelsis Deo (Bis)
Shepherds, who is this party for?
What is the purpose of all these songs?
What a winner, what a conquest!
Deserves these triumphant cries:
Gloria…
Ils annoncent la birth
From the liberator of Israel
And full of gratitude
Sing on this solemn day:
Gloria …
Let us all seek the happy village
Who saw him born under his roofs
Let us offer him the tender homage
And from our hearts and our voices:
Gloria …
Shepherds, leave your retreats,
Join their concerts,
And that your tender bagpipes
Let them hold the tunes:
Gloria …
English version lyrics
Angels we have heard high
Sweetly singing ore the plains
And the mountains in reply
Echoing their joyous strains
Gloria in excelsis Deo
Gloria in excelsis Deo
Come to Bethlehem and see
Christ whose birth the angels sing
Come adore on bent knee
Christ the Lord the newborn King
Gloria in excelsis Deo
Gloria in excelsis Deo
See him in a laid manger
Whom the choirs of angels praise
Mary, Joseph, lend your aid
While our hearts in love we raise
Gloria in excelsis Deo
Gloria, in excelsis Deo
Gloria in excelsis Deo
