It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year a été composée en 1963, par Edward Pola, compositeur, acteur, et producteur de télévision, et George Wyle, chef d’orchestre, également compositeur. Ce dernier est bien connu d’ailleurs pour avoir écrit la song du générique de la populaire série des années 60, Gilligan’s Island. Les paroles de la chanson se réfèrent directement aux activités et célébrations se déroulant pendant la période de Christmas, alors que l’accent est mis sur les réunions familiales et amicales tenues tout au cours de ces festivités. Elles font aussi allusion aux fantômes de Noël, figurant dans le célèbre conte de Charles Dickens, Un Chant de Noël (A Christmas Carol).

Increasingly broadcast on radio, its popularity only grew, to the point that today, it occupies a prominent place among traditional Christmas songs. In 1968 and 1976, It's the Most Wonderful Time of the Year was used as part of an advertising campaign for a lung disease association, aimed at promoting Christmas stamps.
Then, for a few years, just before the back-to-school season, the Staples office supply retail chain also used it in a humorous way to promote their school supplies. In these advertisements, we could see parents shopping for school supplies, very happy to see their offspring return to class, while the children, in a foul mood, reluctantly accompanied them.
