Christmas Music: My Beautiful Christmas Tree
Origin of the song
"My Beautiful Fir Tree" was composed by Ernst Anschütz, a German organist from Leipzig and a professor of his true profession. However, it should be noted that this is the most famous and well-known version. In fact, an older version, at least in terms of the lyrics, dates back to 1550. Another version followed, this time in 1615, and composed by Melchior Franck.
An international workers' movement frequently uses the music of this hymn. Furthermore, since 1939, this same music has been the official anthem of the state of Maryland. Furthermore, between 1933 and 1945, during the Third Reich, the Nazis adopted this song as part of their platform, so that the Christian aspect assumed for the holiday season could be removed.
D’origine allemande, ce traditionnel cantique de Christmas est aussi connu sous le titre de « O Tannenbaum » dans sa version originale. Par la suite, il a été traduit en plusieurs langues, dont notamment en anglais et en français. En ce qui concerne la version anglophone, on lui attribué le titre de « Oh Christmas Tree ».
Tino Rossi, René Simard, Alain Morisod and Sweet People, Bruno Pelletier, Claude Barzotti, the Red Army Choir, Roch Voisine and Nana Mouskouri are just a few of the performers among many others who have recorded a French version of "Mon beau sapin".
On the English-speaking side, a few artists have also recorded it, including Nat King Cole, Andrea Bocelli and The Platters.
