Christmas Markets in Europe – 3. Bern
Il y a vingt ans environ, que la tradition du marché de Christmas est devenue populaire dans la jolie ville de Berne en Suisse. Depuis ce temps, la Waisenhausplatz welcomes around 50 wooden houses each year, framed with fir branches and each decorated in its own unique way. There you'll find traditional Christmas items and handcrafted goods, among which you're sure to find special handmade gifts. Not to mention the specialties: pastries and the famous gingerbread, caramels, homemade apple juice, and mulled wine.
Ten minutes from the Waisenhausplatz, near the Bern Cathedral, there is another, more recent market, called Münsterplatz where artisans and glassblowers demonstrate their expertise. Why not take the opportunity to take a break at the capital's legendary café: the Kornhaus Keller which has existed for 350 years.
The houses of the old town, built between the 15the and the 17the siècle, constituent le décor unique et merveilleux des marchés de Noël bernois. Rappelons que la vieille ville a été classée au patrimoine mondial de l’Unesco pour la grande unité architecturale et urbanistique de son centre médiéval. Il suffit de plonger dans ses ruelles aux arcades illuminées, aux façades décorées de petits sapins de Noël, et de se laisser envoûter par la music des nombreux musiciens animant le centre, pour vivre un moment de la magie féérique de Noël à Berne.
