The Legend of the Fourth Magi
Une légende venant on ne sait d’où raconte qu’un quatrième Roi mage s’était rendu à la crèche pour voir l’Enfant-Jesus. Il arrivait de l’extrémité du pays des Gaules, d’un endroit nommé Pelloc’hoaz.
The king of Pelloc'hoaz had received news in a dream that the King of Kings had arrived on earth and that a bright star would guide him to Him. The next day, he set out, bringing with him three extremely rare pearls, which he had inherited from his ancestors.
The first pearl shone like pink mother-of-pearl and bore the soft colors of sunrise. Its shape was reminiscent of a heart. The king of Pelloc'hoaz wanted to offer it to the Lord as a lucky charm.
The second pearl, green in color, recalled the countryside and the beauty of nature. The king wanted to offer it to the Divine Child because it reflected the splendors of the world and the Creator's love for all that lives.
The third pearl, white in color, was rather transparent like crystal. It diffused so much light that it illuminated everything around it. With it, one received in thought the advice to offer, the long-sought solution, the path to take. With this pearl, life was simplified as well as relationships between people. For the king of Pelloc'hoaz, it symbolized intelligence and wisdom of the mind.
Legend has it that after a long and arduous journey, the king finally arrived in the region where the cave was located when he encountered Herod's soldiers to whom he had to give the pink pearl to prevent the killing of male infants. A little further on, to save the life of a poor, wrongly accused man, he discarded the green pearl. All that remained was the white pearl to light his way.
He was arriving at his destination when a grieving mother called for help because someone was coming for her only son, who had just stolen a loaf of bread to help them survive. The king of Pelloc'hoaz paid the ransom with the white pearl.
