How to make your own Christmas candles?
À chaque année, ma grand-mère entretenait la coutume qui consiste à fabriquer, au début de décembre, une grande quantité de bougies en prévision de Christmas. L’opération est toute simple et nécessite peu d’éléments pour la réaliser. Une autre occasion de préparer Noël avec les enfants ou les amis. Vous trouverez ci-après la liste des fournitures et les étapes de fabrication des bougies.
Supplies (at craft supply stores)
- paraffin flakes (in the color of your choice)
- a wick (sized to fit the mold)
- a tubular mold or even a small diameter tin can
- essential oil of your choice
Instructions:
Melt the paraffin over low heat in a double boiler, stirring gently with a wooden spoon. When the wax is ready, remove it from the heat (around 80°C).
Secure the wick in the center of the mold with a few drops of paraffin, then pour the remaining wax into the mold. Add a few drops of essential oil (adjust the amount of wax used depending on the size of the mold). Let it harden. Once the candle has cooled, remove it from the mold and immerse it in hot, but not boiling, water for a minute to create a beautiful, shiny appearance.
Tip: It is best to wait a few weeks before lighting the candle.
Decorating tip : Pour un effet “pro”, vous pouvez tapisser l’intérieur du moule de votre bougie avec des pétales de fleurs ou des feuilles séchées, par exemple, en les fixant à l’aide d’une goutte de paraffine. Quel joli gift à offrir!
