Christmas Music: Wonderful Christmastime
Paul McCartney, ex-membre des Beatles, se veut non seulement l’auteur et l’interprète de Wonderful Christmastime, mais aussi le seul musicien à jouer de tous les instruments entendus dans cette song of Christmas. Endisquée en 1979, elle ne connut guère de succès aux États-Unis, mais dans le pays d’origine de Paul McCartney, elle parvint tout de même à se classer à la 6e position du Single Chart du Royaume-Uni. Néanmoins, avec le temps d’antenne que les stations radiophoniques lui accordèrent au fil des années, elle finit par devenir un classique du temps du fêtes, tant aux États-Unis qu’au Canada.
With this song, Paul McCartney finally joined the other members of The Beatles, each of whom had previously recorded a Christmas single. However, he never managed to match the success of John Lennon's "Happy Xmas (War is over)," but achieved much more popularity with Wonderful Christmastime than Ringo Starr and George Harrison, whose Christmas songs went virtually unnoticed.
Qu’il soit à la fois le compositeur, l’interprète et le seul musicien permet à Paul Cartney d’en retirer toutes les redevances, que l’on estime à environ 400 000 $ par année. À ce jour, cette chanson lui aurait apparemment rapporté tout près de 15 millions de dollars US, ce qui prouve bel et bien qu’elle est devenue populaire au fil du temps. Dans la vidéo accompagnant Wonderful Christmastime, tournée au Fountain Inn dans le West Sussex, on y voit apparaître les membres du groupe The Wings, même si ceux-ci n’ont jamais contribué de quelque façon que ce soit à la version originale.
