Christmas Song: Step into Christmas
Grand succès d’Elton John, dont lui-même en a composé la music, Step into Christmas figure maintenant parmi les chansons de Christmas favorites du XXIe siècle. Néanmoins, lorsqu’elle fut endisquée sur un single en 1973, elle n’engendra pas le succès espéré. Il aura fallu attendre quelques années de diffusion pour qu’enfin, elle se classe parmi les meilleures chansons de Noël. D’ailleurs, en 2009, elle devenait la neuvième chanson de Noël la plus jouée au Royaume-Uni, et depuis, elle n’a rien perdu de sa popularité.
Interestingly, Step into Christmas is one of the few Christmas songs that hasn't been covered by other artists. It seems that no one has dared to reproduce this great Elton John hit. In fact, his version is the only one that has been popularized. Remastered a few years later, Step into Christmas appears on many of Elton John's albums, even those that don't feature any other Christmas songs.
A video was also produced, but it differs from the original version. According to Elton John and Bernie Taupin, who wrote the lyrics, this difference was intentional. By recording a video version, the two co-writers wanted to pay homage to the Christmas songs from Spector's productions. Artists who have had great success recording Christmas songs with Spector include The Ronettes and Darlene Love.
