In Germany, the Christmas tree is not decorated until December 24th, and it is the children who take care of this task. At Christmas dinner, a roast goose is served, accompanied by red cabbage and apples. <\/p>\n

In England, houses are all decorated in red and green, and cards are sent to family and friends. Those received are stuck on ribbons and then hung on the wall. Christmas dinner necessarily consists of turkey with chestnuts and the famous pudding. <\/p>\n

Austria takes on a festive atmosphere starting on December 1st. Vienna's City Hall Park is transformed into a market, and children, dressed as fairy tale characters or animals, skate and enjoy roasted chestnuts. On December 24th, the Christmas tree, which had been hidden until then, is decorated by parents. Meanwhile, children roam the city streets with their grandparents. <\/p>\n

In Denmark, the Christmas tree is trimmed as a family, and the decorations are mostly made by the children. A wreath, adorned with four candles, hangs from the ceiling of every house. After Christmas dinner, the father goes alone to the room where the tree is set up, where several candles are placed. These are lit one after the other, and only when the father has finished does the family join him. Everyone then holds hands and, forming a circle around the tree, sings Christmas carols.<\/p>\n

In France, on New Year's Eve, oysters and foie gras are on the menu. On December 25th, the whole family gathers around the table, and members honor the traditional turkey, sometimes replaced by capon, as well as the iced log. <\/p>\n

Very popular in the United States, Christmas celebrations begin on Thanksgiving. As Santa Claus prepares his rounds, children sing in the streets. While turkey is part of the Christmas meal, eggnog is one of the traditions observed by all.
