Pendant longtemps, la c\u00e9l\u00e9bration de Christmas<\/a> au Qu\u00e9bec \u00e9tait ax\u00e9e davantage vers l\u2019aspect religieux de cette f\u00eate. Personne n’aurait song\u00e9 \u00e0 ne pas assister \u00e0 la messe de minuit. C\u2019\u00e9tait plut\u00f4t au Jour de l\u2019An que la famille et les amis festoyaient autour d\u2019une table bien garnie, se visitaient et s\u2019\u00e9changeaient des cadeaux.<\/p>\n

Starting in the third week of November, Quebec stores and boutiques are filled with Christmas-themed decorations, followed by Christmas trees outside adorned with lights to herald the festive season. Quebecers enjoy decorating the interior and exterior of their homes (lights, Christmas trees, garlands) for the holiday season.<\/p>\n

Traditions<\/strong><\/p>\n

Plusieurs pr\u00e9parent \u00e0 son intention un l\u00e9ger go\u00fbter constitu\u00e9 de biscuits et d\u2019un verre de lait. D\u00e8s le lendemain matin, ils se pr\u00e9cipiteront vers les cadeaux qu\u2019a apport\u00e9s le cher Bonhomme \u00e0 la barbe blanche\u2026s\u2019ils ont \u00e9t\u00e9 bien sages dans l\u2019ann\u00e9e.<\/p>\n

Adults and older children celebrate Christmas together at home on the evening of December 24th or the following day. After the meal, a "game leader" names the gift recipients and presents them to each one. At midnight, champagne (or sparkling wine) is drunk.<\/p>\n

\nEven today, roasted and stuffed turkey is part of the traditional Christmas menu, accompanied by cranberry jelly. Tourti\u00e8re (pork, beef, and veal pie) and pig's foot stew are still found on every table that remains faithful to the traditional Quebec holiday menu. Not to mention the Yule log for dessert.<\/p>\n

In recent years, however, more recent generations have introduced a lighter New Year's Eve table, with starters and main courses more inspired by nouvelle cuisine (verrines or fine bites as starters, braised meats, desserts in cups or tiramisu).<\/p>\n
