On croit cependant qu\u2019il pourrait remonter au XVIIIe si\u00e8cle, voire m\u00eame ant\u00e9rieurement, quoi que l\u2019histoire ne puisse le prouver officiellement. Par contre, en 1823, les paroles de cette <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blognoel.com\/en\/christmas-songs\/\">song<\/a> ont \u00e9t\u00e9 publi\u00e9es dans un r\u00e9pertoire intitul\u00e9 \u00abChants anciens et modernes\u00bb, pour ensuite r\u00e9appara\u00eetre en 1883 dans une autre publication, \u00abGilbert and Sandys Carols\u00bb, tous deux \u00e9dit\u00e9s par William B. Sandys.<\/p>\n<p>Il existe une autre rumeur circulant \u00e0 l\u2019effet que le refrain contenu dans The First Noel pourrait provenir d\u2019un ancien cantique, chant\u00e9 autrefois dans les \u00e9glises, et connu sous le titre The First O Well. Cependant, encore une fois, il ne s\u2019agit l\u00e0 que d\u2019une source qui n\u2019a pu \u00eatre confirm\u00e9e. Cet ancien chant de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blognoel.com\/en\/\">Christmas<\/a> figure aussi \u00e0 l\u2019occasion sous le titre The First Nowell, dont l\u2019origine d\u00e9coulerait possiblement d\u2019une d\u00e9formation du mot fran\u00e7ais No\u00ebl, lequel pourrait sans doute \u00eatre prononc\u00e9 Nowell par certains. <\/p>\n<p>Bing Crosby is credited with being one of the first to record The First Noel, but Andy Williams&#039; version remains one of the most popular.
