Toutefois, l\u2019origine de ce chant demeure incertaine, et bien qu\u2019il subsiste quelques indices laiss\u00e9s ici et l\u00e0, aucun d\u2019entre eux ne permet cependant de retracer le nom de <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blognoel.com\/en\/christmas-songs\/\">son<\/a> auteur. Certains attribuent cette \u0153uvre \u00e0 un pr\u00eatre franciscain, du nom de Saint Bonaventure, lequel aurait apparemment compos\u00e9 le texte original en latin. Or, des manuscrits authentiques datant du XVIIIe si\u00e8cle, et sign\u00e9s de la main de John Francis Wade, laissent croire qu\u2019il pourrait en \u00eatre l\u2019auteur. En effet, parmi les \u00e9crits de ce compositeur originaire de Douai en France, on y retrouve la m\u00e9lodie et les paroles d\u2019Adeste Fideles.<\/p>\n<p>However, referring to the oldest manuscript, dated 1640, where the first traces of this Christmas carol appear, John Francis Wade cannot surely be the author, since the latter lived between 1711 and 1786. What&#039;s more, a man named Marcus Antonius de Fonseca, master of the chapel of the king of Portal, claimed in turn that this work belonged to him. And to confuse the issue even more, Christoph Willibald Gluck, a French composer of German origin, also claimed, at another time, to be the author. In short, there is no certainty or proof as to the composer of this hymn, which is nevertheless so popular. <\/p>\n<p>Recorded by many artists, Adeste Fideles counts among its most popular performers some illustrious opera singers, including Andrea Bocelli, Placido Domingo, Jos\u00e9 Carreras and Luciano Pavarotti.
