Christmas around the world: in Great Britain
Dès le début de décembre, on envoie des cartes de vœux à la famille et aux amis. Celles-ci seront affichées au mur jusqu’au jour des Rois, soit le 6 janvier. Les nombreux marchés de Christmas retentissent des « Ho-Ho-Ho » des Pères Noëls, et les façades des boutiques et magasins débordent de lumières pour créer une ambiance festive un peu partout dans les villes.
Traditions
In Great Britain, tradition dictates that Christmas preparations begin with the preparation of the famous Plum Pudding, which is turned over on the last Sunday before the big day, while each member of the family makes a wish before baking it. We must not forget the famous Christmas Cake, which differs from Plum Pudding in its sweet icing and decorations. The entire house is then decorated in red, green, and gold.
Turkey and cracker
At Christmas dinner, the family eats roast turkey with chestnuts, stuffed with sage and onion. Delicious Scottish salmon and braised ham are also part of the menu.
In this country, the custom of the Christmas "cracker" (a large twist that must be pulled at both ends to reveal its contents, a surprise) is essential for every Christmas Eve.
Le goûter du Santa Claus
On Christmas Eve, a public holiday, children eagerly await Father Christmas with his gifts, who have prepared fruit tarts (minced pies), a small glass of whisky or port (to warm up), and carrots for his reindeer. The next morning, they will rush to the foot of the tree to open the presents that the dear Snowman has left for them.
