Tips for choosing the right tablecloth for New Year's Eve
Fond de décor pour votre buffet de Christmas, la nappe doit être choisie et décorée avec soin. Pour plus d’harmonie et d’élégance, assortissez-la avec les couverts, la vaisselle et les plats de service.
Stylist Tips and Tricks
If your tableware has multiple colors or patterns, choose a tablecloth in a solid color that complements it. When the tableware is white or a solid color, you can afford to place a tablecloth with delicate patterns, or even embroidered or damask, for an even more elegant look. When the tablecloth has a central pattern, it's best to place it directly in the center of the table.
Slip a fleece under the tablecloth to prevent it from slipping and to muffle noise during the meal. It's also a precaution in case of an accident. The fleece should extend at least three centimeters beyond the width and length of the table.
The tablecloth itself should be large enough to drape 25 to 35 centimeters over each side of the table. When the drape is insufficient, simply layer two tablecloths over each other and you're done.
The centerpiece
An attractive centerpiece will become the focal point of your table. It should be neither too large nor too tall, so as not to obstruct the view of your guests, nor take up too much space, which would interfere with serving. Choose it to match the theme of the rest of the table.
Although there are a wide variety of them available commercially, you can easily create an interesting centerpiece yourself. A glass bowl, a pretty vase, the base of a cake dome, or a silverware tray make ideal centerpieces to decorate with candles, decorative Christmas balls, cranberries, mistletoe leaves, clementines, cedar branches, pine cones, ribbons...the choice is yours.
If the table size does not allow you to install a centerpiece, place a small decoration at the location of each guest.
